TMPC News Jan 2020
Dear TMPC Family and Friends,
Christmas is now less than three weeks away. Most of us will have already spent a bit of time shopping, visiting and getting ready for the holiday. There is no question that this Christian holiday has become over commercialised. It seems as time passes that fewer people understand or care what Christmas is about. It is not the epitome of the Christian faith. It is the day that the church has set aside on its calendar to draw attention to the historical reality of the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ. That is a good thing. It gives us the opportunity to publicise more fully why Jesus came and what he has done. The best message of Christmas that people can get on a personal level is to have someone talk to them about the salvation that we have in Christ. As a church we should pray for one another that we will have opportunity not just to spend time in the trappings of the Christmas holidays but that we might have opportunity to share the real meaning of Christmas with friends and family. I want to thank all of you who have given time, energy, and financial support to help out with the Christmas event. (Thanks for all your work Julie!) I hope you will be able to attend and bring along some friends. There will be a variety of events for kids and adults. Don’t forget our family friendly Christmas eve service as well. During the Christmas season Dave and I will be doing a short sermon series from Isaiah chapter 7, 9, and 11. Perhaps you can use those chapters to help you put the glitter and busyness of Christmas in perspective.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Have a great Christmas!
